Western Electric 653A Dial Wall Telephone Phone SuperThis wonderful western electric dial wall telephone is fully reconditioned and guaranteed to work. It was made in the 1920's. It is a model 653a which was upgraded thereafter by the bell system to anti-sidetone for excellent sound quality.
This is the wall model of the candlestick phone. If you want a beautiful western electric wall phone that you can use, this is it! The 635a transmitter is the great sounding capsule type that is affectionately referred to by collectors as the bull dog transmitter. It is original and made of bakelite. The 706a receiver is also original, a great sounding capsule type, adn made of bakelite. The transmitter and receiver were also upgrades made by the bell system. This is the best osunding of this type of wall phone that western electric made! The width is 9 1/2 inches including the receiver in the hook, the heihgt is 9 1/4 inches, and the depth is 6 inches. To easily remove/replace the receiver you need an additional 1 1/2 inches on the left side. This tleephone is not a reproduction! It is the real thing. The only new parts are the acrd on the dial and the nice brown cloth cords. It has a nice new professionally applied baked on black semi-gloss finish that matches the original, not a glossy spray can job. The dial is a we #5 that makes a wonderful clicking sound when dialing. The phone's case contains the ringer, coil, and condenser. All my phones are totally dismantled, refinished, reassembled, and thoroughly tested two different times. As mentioned before, this phone is fully functional and ready to use. Just plug it into any standard modular jack. To make a call, pick up the receiver, dial the number, and talk. To receive a call, pick up the receiver after hearing teh old bell ring, and talk. This is a great old telephone! Telephones like this, reconditioned and functional, have sold for well over $600.00 on ebay. My reserve is less than that.
