Western Electric 2554 Touch Tone Wall Telephone Phone Here's something a little newer than my usual offerings a 1979 western electric model 2554 wall phone. Introduced in 1967, the 2554 was the compact alternative to the full size 1554 wall phone. By the early '80s the chunky chrome handset hook was replaced by a plastic one-just like the red phones you see all over your local target store. This gleaming black beauty has the classic style and rock-solid reliability of a vintage phone but with the convenience of touch tone dialing.
Because of the mint condition of this example, it is my belief that it was never put into service. There are no scratches, scuffs or marks anywhere. It places and recevies calls perfectly, and the bell ringer has such a pleasant sound compared to the electronic warble of modern phones. Remember that if your power goes out in a storm this phone will still function, unlike the cordless type. This model is compatible with your existing wall phone jack wtih no modification or special adapters. Simply press the gray modular plug on the bakc of the unit into your wall jack and slide the phone down to lock it into place-it takes about two seconds!
